Friday August 21st was a very active, noisy, busy, but Great day at The Way. After having 91 students on Thursday, we had 118 on Friday. Students enjoyed basketball, arts and crafts, roller blading, football, pool, air hockey, foosball, ga ga ball, bingo and numerous other activities in addition to hanging out with friends. Special thanks to Bro. Loran Wagoner for managing the gym, Jennifer Boone and Katie Sumner for doing arts and crafts, Nathan Phelps for overseeing ga ga ball, Kathy Reed and Denise Young for leading bingo and Uno, respectively. and Pat Crane for giving chess lessons.. Thanks to Refuge and Revival Churches for providing the evening's food and for the individuals who came to serve it --as did St. Stephen on Thursday.Best of all, approximately 90 students heard a powerful devotion from Jessica Smith of Refuge. ...

The Way opened the 26-27 School Year with having the first of 2 days specifically designated for orientation of 6th graders and other students who had not previously attended.All volunteers present were excited to have 20 new students attend; all of whom make a great impression!!!Students were treated to pizza and snacks as volunteers worked closely with them to fill out student surveys. Greta Smith and Kathy Gibson then took groups through The Way's campus, including the Library and Arts and Crafts area where Martha Davis and Katie Sumner, respectively, talked about available activities. After a short devotion and orientation of The Way's student behavior expectations, students were dismissed to enjoy the many activities The Way offers each day including air hocket, ping pong, foosball, basketball, roller blading, etc. As students left for the day, Kandy Garrett gave each one a "gift bag" she personally put together including Gospel tracts, sodas, candy, chips, water bottles, and other items. Thanks to all of the above volunteers plus Loran Wagoner, GG Moore, and others for over almost 70 years of cumulative service to Trigg County Youth at The Way.. The Way and Trigg County is so blessed to have a group of ladies who work very hard and sacrifice their time to help meet the clothing needs of students at No cost. Sister(s) Romona Alexander (Team Lead), Ann Burnam, Dale Beverly, Gail Oliver and Laura Thomas (with "manly muscle help" from Laura's husband, Malcom) work countless hours to inspect, grade, sort, clean, and display hundreds of items donated each month by generous Trigg Countians. Almost each week during the school year these wonderful women not only enable and assist 15-20 students to obtain almost any kind of clothing and toiletries (important especially to middle school students and those who love them 🙂), but share the love of CHRIST to them in word and deed. They build relationships with students and share GOD's word each day. Two of the students have accepted CHRIST as SAVIOR since the LORD started the clothes closet in 2024. Trigg County Youth Services Coordinator and Julie Wadlington also periodically bring students to the clothes closet, as needed, during the school day. On Saturday August 8th, for the second year in a row, these ladies opened the closet to help 12 families (this year) to obtain back to school needs. Please see photos below. GREAT NIGHT AT THE WAY!!!!!! Twenty three members of the Trigg County Cross Country Team, and their coaches, enjoyed the inspiring movie "Overcomer" along with pizza and ice cream sundaes, floats, etc. This movie, a true story about a young woman who "overcame" challenges of the world, through a relationship with CHRIST JESUS, to win a state cross country championship, deeply resonated with the students. Praise the LORD for Katie and Lewis Sumner who pulled the event together, sacrificing a large part of their day so students could hear about CHRIST's love.Thanks also to Nathan and Shawn for their assistance. It was an honor to host Coach Harrison. his staff. and the track team for the blessing of holding what we hope is an annual event for a group of athletes who do not get the recognition afforded other sports participants. .A HUGE thank you to The Way Christian Youth Center for taking care of our runners today after the heat. Pizza, XC movie, and ice cream was more than appreciated 🤍🖤 ...

The Way was blessed to sponsor seven students to attend Hillcrest Christian Kid's Camp (June 1-5) near Cave In Rock IL. For most of these young men (6th graders) it was their first time at camp.The Camp Director, Chris Downing (Pastor Canton Baptist Church) was camp director and once again did a fantastic job of planning and organizing a week that ministered to students spiritually, physically, and mentally. Brother Chris is a wonderful man of GOD with a servant's heart and we Praise the LORD for him.The Way has been blessed to sponsor over 100 students in the past four years (both Kid's and Youth Camp) and plan to sponsor 15 more for the Youth Camp (grades 7-12) scheduled for July 27-31.Thanks to Churches and other Christians of Trigg County for making it possible for these young men to attend.Students pictured below:Standing: L-R David Sadler, Khade Cherry, Chandler Choate, Brycen Aquilar, and Rylan Nott."Reclining" (back to front). Congratulations to Brittany Calhoun for being the second Trigg Countian to get their GED in 2026. Brittany actually attended The Way on occasion while in middle school. In 2024, one of The Way's board members told Brittany about it hosting GED programs. She was excited because of the geographical location and comfort level with The Way. While family situations prevented her from enrolling until this year, she did so and graduated on Tuesday May 19th. Please see below photo taken by WKEC instructor Jason Asher.
