Kenny Rogers is a busy man. Once he finishes his 9 a.m. sermon at Linton United Methodist Church, he and wife Betty drive to Bethel United Methodist Church for his 11:00 a.m. sermon.
Not only do both churches share a pastor, but they both consistently financially support this ministry. We are honored to have Bethel United Methodist Church as a Proud Sponsor of The Way. (For information about Linton United Methodist Church, see story below).
“Our churches believe that The Way provides the youth of our community a safe environment to have some fun and food and at the same time experience the love and grace that God offers,” Brother Kenny explains. “This is the reason both our churches decided years ago to support The Way. We made this decision based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God.”
It is generally accepted that Bethel is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Methodist organizations in Trigg County. Records show that it was established years before Trigg County was created in 1820. According to western Kentucky history, an early Methodist class was organized on Bird’s Creek, where a log house of worship was built and used for many years.
Around 1888, a larger frame structure was erected a short distance from the old church and beside Bethel Cemetery. In 1968, the church was remodeled, adding a full basement for Sunday School rooms, new pews, lectern, pulpit chairs, communion table and carpeting for the sanctuary, and stained glass windows and brick veneer.
